The Volunteer Transportation Center provides transportation to residents of Jefferson County who have no other way of getting to medical appointments, pharmacies, therapies, or groceries. We currently operate four programs: Senior Transportation Program, Project Wings, Persons With Disabilities, and Other Transportation Programs.
This program is operated in conjunction with the Jefferson County Office for the Aging (OFA) and serves those who are 60 years of age or older. Generally, transportation for residents of the City of Watertown is only provided for appointments outside the city. Exceptions can be made if there is a legitimate reason that the person cannot use the bus, para-transit, or taxi. Application forms can be obtained from our office or from OFA.
Project Wings is operated in conjunction with the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired of Jefferson County and provides transportation to help those who are blind or visually impaired become more independent and expand socially. Transportation is available for medical appointments, groceries, and support groups. Applications for this program must be obtained from the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired at 321 Prospect St., Watertown or by calling 782-2451.
This program serves the transportation needs of those who are disabled, especially the developmentally disabled. The purpose is to help persons with disabilities seeking to achieve inclusion in their communities. Transportation is available for medical appointments, groceries, attendance at community functions, etc.
The Volunteer Transportation Center may be able to offer transportation to those who do not meet the criteria for the above programs. There are no age limits but the need must be critical and no other transportation available.
The Volunteer Transportation Center does not charge clients for these services although we do ask clients to make as much of a donation as they can afford. No one will be refused transportation because of an inability to donate.
